Carlo Ancelotti hopes for change in refereeing, who have been criticised for their continued service.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed he fully agrees with a statement on refereeing in Spain, after the club sent a four-page letter to Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Luzan, which described refereeing decisions as corrupt and scandalous.

‘What we ask is that they explain what happened and nothing more,’ Ancelotti said.

‘Whatever they are thinking, if they don’t explain it, then there’s a problem. If so, then we need to fix it.’

‘I will say it again, there are situations where we need explanations. If there is no explanation, there is a problem, and if there is a problem, it must be solved. What happened at Espanyol is an opportunity to change.’

In a statement, Real Madrid also lamented that they were robbed of the title because of the referee’s actions, with Ancelotti agreeing: ‘I can only say that I fully agree with those words.’

‘Where everyone is complaining, which means no one is happy. So, as I said, this might be an opportunity to change something.’ 

It has been revealed in recent days by Louzan that Real Madrid President Florentino Perez had suggested drafting in English officials in order to replace the Spanish ones.

“The job of a referee is very difficult. What can I tell you… What I would say is that in England is where they have the least pressure. That’s why they perform better.”
